The Industrial Linkage and Training Unit (ILTU) is an arm of the directorate at Crawford University that plays a vital role in fostering collaborations between academia and industry, thereby enhancing the relevance and applicability of academic programs to real-world needs. This unit facilitates:
- Internships and job placements for students, providing hands-on experience and exposure to industry practices;
- Research collaborations and projects, enabling faculty and students to tackle industry-specific challenges; and
- Networking and partnerships, thereby establishing strong relationships between the Institution and industry stakeholders.
The Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES), which is a stakeholder in this Unit, is a Skills Training Programme designed by the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) and the Federal Government to acquaint students of Universities, Polytechnics, and other institutions with the skills of handling industrial equipment and machinery, and to familiarize them with the industrial work situation they are likely to encounter after graduation.
At Crawford University, SIWES and the National University Commission (NUC) currently endorse programs primarily for 300-level students in the fields of Natural and Applied Sciences, with a duration of six months. Meanwhile, students from other disciplines, including the Colleges of Arts and Communication Studies and the College of Business and Social Sciences, also participate in a modified version of the scheme lasting three months during the second-semester break.
By bridging the gap between academia and industry, the Industrial Linkage and Training Unit enhances the quality of graduates, boosts their job prospects, and contributes to the nation’s economic growth and development.
