Professor Isaac Rotimi AJAYI was born 20th March, l965 in Akure, Ondo State, Nigeria. He attended the St. James’ Primary School in Akure between l970 and l977 for primary education and Ebun Ogunyimika College, Atosin, Idanre, between l977 and 1982 for his secondary education. Professor Ajayi was admitted into the University of Ibadan in 1983 where he studied Physics and graduated B.Sc. with Second Class (Upper Division) in 1987. He later obtained M.Sc. in 1990 and bagged a Ph.D. in l994 from the same University.

Professor Ajayi started his academic career as an Assistant Lecturer in l990 and rose through the ranks to become a Professor of Radiation and Health Physics in 2007 in the Department of Physics and Electronics, Adekunle Ajasin University (formerly Ondo State University), Akungba-Akoko. Professor Ajayi has published extensively in several academic journals around the world. His primary research interests are in Radiation Dosimetry and Protection, Radioecology and Radiation Transport. He has authored and co-authored more than 75 publications in learned journals and written many books notable of which are: Concise Mechanics for Scientists and Engineers, and Basic Electricity and Magnetism. He has also attended and spoken in more than 40 academic conferences and workshops at home and abroad.

Professor Ajayi enjoyed the Federal Government of Nigeria postgraduate scholarship at the University of Ibadan in l988 and a beneficiary of several International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) training. Professor Ajayi was appointed a Regular Associate of the UNESCO International Centre for Theoretical Physics, Trieste, Italy in 2006 and served as Visiting Research Scientist to the Centre 2006 -2013.  He also as a visiting Research Associate at the Institute of Environmental Physics, University of Bremen, Germany between 2005 and 2007. He is the Coordinator for several space research projects of the National Space Research and Development, Agency (NARSDA), Abuja, at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba -Akoko.

Professor Ajayi served Adekunle Ajasin University in several capacities including being Chairman of more than 25 committees and member of more than 16 University committees. He was the  Head, Department of Physics and Electronics 2000-2004 and also 2005 to 2008; Director, Industrial Training Unit 2001 to 2008; Director, Information and Communication Technology Application Centre 2010 to 2013 and Dean, Faculty of Science, 2008 to  2010. Professor Ajayi  was appointed the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the  University on the 10th December, 2010 for a first term of two years and upon successful completion of the term, he was re-appointed for a second term on the 10th December 2012 which he also successfully completed on 10th  December 2014. He was also appointed an Acting Vice Chancellor of the University for a period in 2014.  He is a member of the Nigerian Institute of Physics and the Health Physics Society of the U.S.A. among other Learned Societies.

Professor Ajayi is a product of the 2010 Leadership Development course of the African Association of Universities in Kenya; and the 2014 University Management training course in Johannesburg, South Africa. He is also a graduate of the 2012 Management of Higher Education course of the Galilee International Management Institute in Israel and the Harvard University Extension School. Professor Ajayi   is happily married for more than 24 years to Dr. (Mrs.) Adeyinka Ajayi, an Economic Historian and the union is blessed with two children. Professor Ajayi loves to sing and play table tennis at his leisure. Professor Ajayi was on sabbatical appointment as professor in the Department of Physics at the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti when he was appointed as the Vice Chancellor of Crawford University in 2015. He is currently serving in the position.
