5TH LEARNED CONFERENCE

CALL FOR PAPERS

DATE:      25TH -27TH APRIL, 2017

VENUE:   MULTIPURPOSE HALL, CRAWFORD UNIVERSITY

THEME: AFRICAN CULTURAL SYSTEM AND ISSUES OF DEVELOPMENT IN CONTEMPORARY TIMES

The dynamics of studying social diversity in contemporary Africa is quite relevant to issues of development when posited, especially around the area of African cultural system. Changing social relationships along the path of development in urban Africa has no doubt reflected diverse changes in the political administration of the various countries in the continent in recent times. The contemporary social, economic, political, cultural and religious life of the African peoples have been grossly watered down in the day to day running of the affairs of the people in the continent. Some of the existing problems in contemporary Africa have been blamed on traditional institutions, while the influx of western values on such institutions has also been blamed for the dismantling of cultural values in the continent. The pertinent question to ask is: How relevant, problematic complementary or prospective is the African cultural system to development in contemporary times? The conference invites contributions from the academia, policy makers, civil servants, traditional leaders, United Nations cultural and development agencies, media practitioners and related bodies.
